Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Leinster / County Dublin / Dublin / Glasnevin Cemetery Museum
The history of Ireland is narrated by Glasnevin Cemetery Museum, home to award-winning exhibits and the guardian of personal stories for over 1.5 million people buried there. Dedicated to the known and the unknown who shaped the country's history and helped create the modern nation, the museum covers the burial rituals and beliefs of those who found their final resting place at the cemetery. While there, you can tour the graveyard itself or conduct a genealogy search for your family's history. Within the museum, pay special attention to the Milestone Gallery's timeline, an interactive exhibit outlining the lives of some of the most famous figures buried at the cemetery. This place is far from what you would expect from a cemetery what with its mix of themed tours. Lively ,funny, sad and uplifting. A great walk with old and new friends. Learnt lots and even made it up... more »
Fantastic. Wonderful staff. Helpful genealogist on site. Worth an hour or two, whether you are searching for your ancestor’s grave, visiting the tombs of the famous (fallen heroes of the Easter Uprising, Knights, and writer’s are among the more than one million Dubliners buried here), or learning about the Influenza Epidemic that killed tens of thousands during and after The Great War (WWI). Oh, and the cafeteria is exceptional. I had one of the best meals of my time in Dublin and it was one of the least expensive! Add this to your list of places to see in Dublin.
Tour is very informative and high standard. Staff very helpful. Improved records nearly every time I've seen there (3+).
