Trip Planner: Europe / Ireland / Province of Leinster / County Dublin / Dublin / National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology
Housing a trove of archeological treasures, National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology displays items unearthed in Ireland as well as items from ancient Egyptian and Roman relics. The museum building, a major tourist attraction in and of itself, features a colonnaded entrance opening into a rotunda, designed to pay homage to ancient Roman architecture. Inside you can explore an extensive collection of prehistorical gold artifacts and metal objects from the Celtic Iron Age. Be sure to visit the second-floor galleries, chronicling the four centuries of Viking rule over Dublin. To discover the exhibits at your own pace and focus on areas most suited to your interests, pick up a floor plan at the entrance, or check online for a free downloadable brochure. Only the ground floor is wheelchair accessible. Closed on Mondays ( including Bank Holidays, Good Friday, and Christmas Day). National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology Reviews

This was the first museum stop on our trip to Ireland, and it set a high bar. The archaeological exhibits are especially fine. more »
I was in awe, such an amazing place crammed with so many extinct and exotic creatures! A surreal experience. Two floors of wonder! It's free of charge but you can make a donation, also has nice bathrooms upstairs. Not sure if there was a lift, entrance was definitely wheelchair friendly.
Another of Dublin's excellent free museums to visit - when I went in late March 2019, there were an impressive number of displays and artifacts about Ireland's early history, although it's worth mentioning that the 'Kingship and Sacrifice' section on the ground floor contains some disturbing mutilated bodies - just a disclaimer! While you are forced to enter (and exit) the museum through the gift shop, I found it to be well stocked and also had a nice lunch in the attached Brambles cafe.
