Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Cascades Female Factory Historic Site and St John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. Your inner history buff will appreciate Battery Point Sculpture Trail and Hobart Convict Penitentiary. Change things up with a short trip to Shene Distillery in Pontville (about 38 minutes away). On the 28th (Sun), give your taste buds a day to remember with a local gastronomic tour. There's still lots to do: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Wellington, snap pictures at Richmond Bridge, sample the tasty concoctions at Cascade Brewery, and get a taste of the local shopping with Salamanca Market.
