Founded as a military outpost in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.
Step off the beaten path and head to Dolphin & Whale Watching and Nanarup Beach. Get outdoors at Tree Top Walk and Mandalay Beach. Explore Albany's surroundings by going to Denmark (Forest Hill Vineyard, Greens Pool, & more). The smallest of Australia’s state capitals, Darwin has nevertheless become an attractive and important urban center, being simultaneously one of the country’s most modernized cities and a gateway to both the Top End region and South East Asia.
Take a break from the city and head to Fishing Charters & Tours and Speed Boats Tours. Explore hidden gems such as Magnetic Termite Mounds and Darwin Aviation Museum. When in Darwin, make a side trip to see Buley Rockhole in Litchfield National Park, approximately 1h 20 min away. A neat, cosmopolitan city of shaded plazas and laid-back neighborhoods, Cairns serves as a popular base for exploration of the surrounding region and the Great Barrier Reef, as well as a center for watersport activities like surfing or waterskiing.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to River Rafting & Tubing and Balloon Rides. You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Trinity Beach and Palm Cove Beach.
