Prior Park Landscape Gardens (NT), Bath

How often do you get to visit a garden designed by a poet? Prior Park Landscape Gardens (NT) offers that experience set in a valley of no small natural beauty with views of the city of Bath. Literally the prototype of the "English garden," it has influenced the design of other such gardens throughout Europe. Only a handful of Palladian bridges remain in the world, and you’ll find one of them here--you can even walk across it. Relax in the verdant grass surrounding a manmade lake, complete with a tea shed. Stroll the nearly 10 km (6.25 mi) skyline to gaze at the natural beauty and check out Iron Age and Roman-era constructions. Finish off your visit with a picnic at the park; you can snag a rug at the boat shop if you forgot your blanket. • Great place to spend a lazy afternoon. Stunning views from the top. The landscape is garden is beautiful. It's on the hillside which will give you a full view of Bath city. Lovely friendly staff in the coffee shop. Great coffee and cakes.
  • A excellent visit. Definitely one of the best national trust sites I've visited. A very strong word of warning, it is very hilly and the walk from the city centre (there is no parking near by) is rather hard. Luckily there is a back exit at the bottom of the hill so you don't have to climb back up to leave. The bridge is beautiful and you could spend half an hour or so trying to find the oldest graffiti. Staff where very friendly and very helpful. Provided us with useful information about the back exit.
