Seamus Heaney HomePlace is a new arts and literary centre in Bellaghy, County Derry, celebrating the life and literature of the late poet and Nobel Laureate.

The building features a permanent exhibition about the life and literature of Seamus Heaney, arranged over two floors and filled with personal stories and artefacts, dozens of family photographs, video recordings from friends, neighbours, world leaders, cultural figures, and the voice of the poet himself reading his own words. The exhibition is interactive using the latest touch screen, video and audio technology and includes a recreation of the poet’s Dublin study.

In addition to the exhibition, the centre boasts a 189-seat performing arts space - The Helicon - education and learning spaces, a café and shop.

  • It is well worth a visit to this centre. Its a wonderful tribute to the life & work of Seamus Heaney. A relaxing tour you take at your own pace. The staff are just so friendly and all seem so happy.....  more »

  • Spent 3hours here today. A really inspirational place. So lovely listening to Seamus recite his own work. Just allowed me to connect with the stories told by my parents, I could feel the emotions like I was transported back to their era. Definitely worth a visit. I then went to visit Seamus's grave. Again the simplictly of his headstone just represents the humility of this wonderful talented man.
  • Wonderful experience. Well laid out, well informed and friendly helpful staff. Cried at the Nobel prize exhibit. Don't miss this emotional experience and history lesson. Only one gripe, no signage on side of building on the road we took, so we passed it! Best "personal museum" I've ever seen. Will make you love Seamus even more!
