Bristol Cathedral, Bristol

4.6
It took more than 700 years to build Bristol Cathedral, considered one of the finest medieval churches in Europe. Still in operation today for worship, community service, and private prayer, the cathedral began as an Augustine abbey. Visitors can still trace the original transepts, but it’s the tall Gothic windows and pinnacled skyline that will capture your attention. To understand the full majesty of the structure, it’s best to take a step back as far as possible on College Green where it is located. Entering the cathedral, be sure to be on the lookout for surprising details, including carvings of beasts imitating people in the Elder Lady Chapel. Guided tours are available, and you can book portions of the cathedral for private candlelit dinners.  You can plan Bristol trip in no time by asking Inspirock to help create your itinerary.

  • Its orgins go back to 1140..it has been said that Bristol has a railway station that looks like a cathedral and a cathedral that looks like a railway station...and here it is... God's great engine shed...during the Bristol riots in 1832 when Bristol declared it's independence from the United kingdom..in the hope of a greater rising the mob burnt down the bishops palace leaving only the gate house which was defended with a great staff by the gate keeper and his wife..that's where they lived the rest was burnt to a crisp..
  • Very grand architecture, nice huge open paved area outside for photography. Golden 🦄 on top of adjacent building. Fountain and little river running past front of buildings opposite. Close to shops. No parking at the front. Parking behind near Aquarium building.
