Bristol Zoo Gardens, Bristol

3.8
#1 of 27 in Parks in Bristol
View animals from around the world in recreated natural settings at Bristol Zoo Gardens, where conservation and education meet. The zoo is also the world's oldest provincial zoo, having opened its gates in 1836. The "Twilight Zone," showcasing unusual species, was the first of its kind. Reptiles lounge in their reptile house, birds squawk in the aviaries, and gorillas, tamarinds, and marmosets reside on the islands, where the surrounding waters are alive with feathered creatures. Indoor and outdoor exhibits make a visit worthwhile in all weather conditions. • We went because we remembered Animal Magic on the TV when we were children. It was perfect for toddlers and young children but as middle aged people we found it a bit dull compared to other zoos.  more »

  • We went here for a little day out driving from South Wales. Easy to get to and the parking was made easy (it's £4 but you can use card) thanks to the wardens. It was a quiet day when we went so walking around was a breeze. All the animals seem well looked after and most enclosures had some keepers nearby explaining and talking about the creatures inside. The park itself is very nice and well kept, and the gardens and plants are really great. There's plenty of areas to walk about and play with children too. There is also a little restaurant that serves nice food. The pasta I had was good. Two of the standout enclosures were the penguins/seals and the butterflies. The seals were shooting about under and above the water, and you were able to go underground to see them like I've never seen them before. The butterfly enclosure was very pretty and they were flying around everywhere, allowing you to get extremely close to them. Overall a good day out and well worth it, especially if you book online cheap!
  • A fantastic day out for the family. A wide variety of wildlife from flamingos to lions. All the obvious attractions you’d expect. The restaurant was spacious and the good was good. Plenty of baby changing facilities. Parking was easy and in close proximity to the Zoo. At £4 unlimited the parking was a very reasonable price. I would highly recommended this attraction for a fun day out. My only negative was that pushchair access was not easy st times and wheel chair users may struggle as none of the doors were extra wide or powered. Other than that a brilliant day out. We will be back again soon
