Explore 2,000 years of history at Cardiff Castle, built on a site first used by Roman invaders. The original fort constructed here was a rectangular structure much larger than the current castle, which was built during the Norman invasions of the late 1060s. Norman advance into Wales was often marked by the construction of castles, frequently on old Roman sites. Improved and expanded over the centuries, the castle is now a tourist attraction. Don’t miss a visit to the castle’s Firing Lane Museum of the Welsh Soldier, which is a joint regimental museum of the Queen’s Dragoon Guards and the Royal Welsh. Much better than I had expected. Liked very much the WW2 display, the keep and the actual house where the decor and furnishings were quite amazing. Visitors centre was good. Animal carvings on outside walls lovely too. Close to the town centre also. A nice place to visit
Castle was a good visit but there isn't that much to see overall compared to other castles we have visited in the past. Getting a free audio guide was good as normally you have to pay for that. It is a very good location are you are right in the town center so you can park up and have whole day out there!
