Cardiff Castle, Cardiff

4.4
Explore 2,000 years of history at Cardiff Castle, built on a site first used by Roman invaders. The original fort constructed here was a rectangular structure much larger than the current castle, which was built during the Norman invasions of the late 1060s. Norman advance into Wales was often marked by the construction of castles, frequently on old Roman sites. Improved and expanded over the centuries, the castle is now a tourist attraction. Don’t miss a visit to the castle’s Firing Lane Museum of the Welsh Soldier, which is a joint regimental museum of the Queen’s Dragoon Guards and the Royal Welsh. Check online for special events, including concerts, lectures, jousting demonstrations, and plays. • I’ve passed the Castle many times, but had never been in. Today I changed that and visited. I’m so pleased I did as the Castle is beautiful. I did think that the entry fee was quite expensive for what...  more »
  • Took a self guided tour of the castle with an audio guide. Very interesting, although it was difficult coming back down the spiral stairs because of narrowness. Cafe was nice too.  more »

  • This is my favourite castle in the UK. I love this more than the castle at Warwick and Edinburgh. Something about the way it is built is very endearing. I can come here over and over again just for the view from atop Norman Keep. Not to mention the keep itself is a stunning view in its own.
  • The castle with everything, Roman, Norman, late Medieval and Edwardian Arts and Crafts movement at it's very best. There is also the Museum of the Welsh Soldier and lovely grounds. To cap it all, the castle is smack bang in the city centre, so all the shops and restaurants you could ever want are right outside the gate.
