Conwy Castle has everything you imagine a medieval castle would: massive defensive walls with round towers, fortified gateways, and a perch on a rocky outcropping next to a body of water. UNESCO recognizes the castle as one of Europe's best examples of military architecture from the late 13th and early 14th centuries. Take a self-guided tour and visit the great hall, private chambers, and chapel, then head to the top of one of the towers for views of the surrounding Welsh countryside, the River Conwy, and the Irish Sea. Interpretive signs throughout the site present its history. Disabled visitors receive free admission, but wheelchair access is confined to the visitor center. I've been to a lot of castles and have to say this is probably in the top 5 I've been to, mainly due to how complete it is and the views from the top over the harbour and can see Great Orme across the... more »
It is quite unbelievalbe that this castle and the town wall were built only in four years. It is in ruins but with a little imagination you can see how it used to be in its glory. Don't miss this one. more »
Ancient castle ruins with a great tour of King Edwards jewel. This is a great town to visit as well. Makes for a great day in Conwy. Learn all about the history of Wales and this massive castle creations during the 1800s. This one was spectacular with views of the bay too. Try some local oysters in town while you are there.
Super castle, family friendly (around 9.90 pounds adults and 6 for children, under 5 go free). Allow 2 hours if you want to visit every corner. Kids get a "find the clues" card and get a badge at the end once they complete the challenge. The architecture is amazing, a step in the past. View from the towers is amazing, you can see the old town, city walls, promenade. Definitely a must go destination if you are in north Wales.
