Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh
For the easiest possible access to rugged Scottish landscapes from Edinburgh, head to Arthur's Seat. This 250.5 m (822 ft) promontory sits just 1.6 km (1 mi) east of Edinburgh Castle. You can climb any face of the hill, but the easiest route is to approach from the east and walk up the grassy field. At the top, you'll find a 2,000-year-old fort and one of the best possible views of the city. Bring your camera, footwear with decent traction, drinking water, and clothing to protect yourself from the wind at the top. Arthur's Seat Reviews
Wife and I climbed to the summit of Arthur's seat together. 35 to 40 minute trek up. Slightly challenging but manageable, make sure you look up and choose the path that's best for you. Views are worth... more »
Walk off breakfast by climbing this 300m walk up to the summit. Greats views and a pleasant and easy walk. more »
This place is simply amazing! Beautiful panoramic views of this amazing city. However, it's not that easy to climb to the top. There are many steep slopes and stairs that you need to climb. If you are an elderly person, or have restricted mobility you may need some help. I'm not for sure about here for kids also. They would be fine but I personally wouldn't feel comfortable of my kids running around the steep hills and stairs full of sharp stones. Make sure; - Wear some comfortable clothes and comfortable shoes. Make sure your shoes don't slip easily. - Bring a bottle of water. - Some tissues... Your nose will be runny from the wind at top :) And finally when you are at the top, relax and take a moment to enjoy the wonderful view :)
A great hike to blow the cobwebs away. It's very windy at the top and very popular. There is gentle ascent or a challenging climb. Whichever way you choose there are some fab views.
