Roman Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral of St Andrew, Glasgow

4.7
Admire the understated beauty of Roman Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral of St Andrew, dedicated to Scotland's patron saint and the city's most prominent Roman Catholic church. Completed in 1816, it was built during a time of restrictions on Catholic places of worship and is therefore fairly modest in its scale and design. Although it lacks a steeple and bell tower, the neo-Gothic building is renowned for its simple beauty and peaceful atmosphere. The gleaming white and gold interior features an impressive organ, vibrant stained-glass windows, and notable modern religious artwork. Complete your visit with some relaxation and contemplation in the small garden. • Popped in for service and nostalgic visit. Beautifully presented cathedral, well maintained. Nice gardens.  more »
  • A fine Cathedral, relatively narrow so looks very high. A lot of stained glass. A very interesting B & W photo exhibition from 1880-1900 whilst we were there.  more »

  • Used to go there for mass in the 1960’s when I was a pupil at Our Lady & St Francis school. I visit every time I am home from Canada 🇨🇦 on holiday. It is a beautiful church with a lovely garden to sit and enjoy the peace and quietness right in the heart of the city. Lots of fond memories of this beautiful place 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇨🇦
  • This Cathedral is at the heart of Catholic Glasgow. Within it one can feel the press of history. Recently, beautifully redecorated, it is lovely and bright with a magnificent baptismal font. Highly recommended!
