Its pretty difficult to find us at the moment with the building works at Blackfriars and at the Tate, but we’re still here and open seven days a week.
Our entrance faces the Thames, so if you are coming along the Thames footpath diversion from the west, look out for the Bankside signs on Hopton Street and go through the archway. Turn right and you’ll spot the entrance. From the east head past Tate Modern and we’re down the steps on the left.
For artists or buyers collecting works from the Gallery, limited parking is available in Hopton Street for loading and unloading only.
The Royal Watercolour Society represents the finest watercolour painting in Britain; it is the oldest watercolour society in the world, established in 1804, and is second only to the Royal Academy of Art in importance as an art society.
The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE) was founded as the Society of Painter Etchers and Engravers in 1880, in order to counter the Royal Academy’s then refusal to recognise printmaking as a creative, rather than reproductive, art.
The Society has had many distinguished Members such as Walter Sickert, August Rodin, Dame Laura Knight, Graham Sutherland and Michael Rothenstein.
Bankside Gallery Reviews
May I recommend that you come to see this exhibition which celebrates the inspirational teaching of Hugo Grenville. Subject: Invitation to Companions in Colour Exhibition at Bankside Gallery. until..... more »
Just beside the Tate Modern lies this lovely and much smaller gallery. Open and light and with a gallery shop in the next room. Easily acxessible and free entrance. I also loved the exhibition. more »
Very lovely printing gallery next to the southbank. Although it is not too big it has a lot of very nice things to watch. A good thing they do is the amount of prints from different artists they sell, and the fact that behind most of them you can find a lot of information about the artist. There are some very affordable high quality prints. Different techniques and styles. If I were to make a nice present I would get a print from here.
little gem on the london map - quiet space and beautiful objects brought together. Perfect. You can also buy paintings, drawings or a little gift in their shop. Staff is very kind and helpful.
