Black Cultural Archives was founded in 1981 to collect, preserve and celebrate the contributions Black people have made to the culture, society and heritage of the UK.It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Black Cultural Archives and many more London attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's London road trip planning tool .
Our unique and growing archive collection offers insight into the history of people of African descent in Britain and includes rare documents, photographs, oral history testimonies and objects dating from the second century to the present day. Through our public programmes and partnership work with other organisations we enable a variety of communities to learn and connect with this often hidden history.
Black Cultural Archives is working on a major building project to open the UK's first Black heritage centre at Windrush Square in the heart of Brixton, London.

Black Cultural Archives Reviews
The Black Cultural Archives website states that it is "the only national heritage centre dedicated to collecting, preserving and celebrating the histories of African and Caribbean people in Britain." ... more »
I've reviewed the venue on a cultural excursion previously, we'd also previously stopped for a bite, but this time we got seduced by the menu and that bite got bigger. So I'd like to say - top notch t... more »
We only visited the lovely cafe and didn't get to explore the whole archives but the cafe staff were SO friendly and welcoming. We just came in for a coffee but ended up staying for a toasted sandwich (the guy behind the till made us a special one with this incredible homemade mango mayo and hot sauce!) and cake. There are images and captions on the walls of the cafe showing the untold stories of people of African and Caribbean descent in Britain which is really interesting to read. Definitely worth a visit.
I expected more! We got there and there was a private event on the second floor.. As this venue only has those two floor, there was not much to see as the exhibition only had about 5 main pictures and a few other bits on the first floor. We were told more pictures were in the cafe, which was full of people and groups we couldn't even get to the odd pictures in cafe. Having a private event at 1pm on a Saturday was a shame as this would be the day and time of the week, families would be able to visit. Had such high expectations, very Disappointed
