Guildhall Art Gallery was established in 1886 as 'a Collection of Art Treasures worthy of the capital city'. The original building was destroyed during a severe air raid in 1941. In 1988, when the Gallery was being rebuilt on its original site, Museum of London archaeologists discovered the remains of London’s Roman Amphitheatre. The new building was redesigned to incorporate the underground Roman ruins and opened in 1999.

  • Visiting London doesn't have to cost a fortune. Here is a perfect example of something interesting and completely free! Free entry. Free spacious and clean toilets. Free guided tour to tell you all about the history of the City of London through paintings mainly but there is also the remains of a roman amphitheatre in the basement. Highly recommended.
  • Awesome art gallery! The cherry on top was the roman amphitheatre beneath; it looks like something out of the hunger games. Amazing art collection with artworks from all over the world and with many focusing on London. There's also a parchment with Shakespeare's signature on it which was interesting to see. Would highly recommend going!
