I was able to experience, even if briefly, the sense of sharing, hospitality, community that inspires and drives the activities of this parish and I think attend a function can be a very enriching experience from a cultural point of view and spiritual. Here you do not go to church. Here everyone "is" Church "becomes" Church all together. The Parish has a small buffet of hot drinks and croissant already half oa before the function. Is a form of acceptance that symbolizes the acceptance of God who invites and welcomes us all. Is a moment of encounter and exchange between faithful very pleasant. A way to meet and take part in community life. Children have a room to play inside the Church. Futile to expect that they are good for one hour, it is not in their ability. "Get up" at their level and to create the conditions so that they can experience the Church as a pleasurable experience, I find it's very respectful. Behind a screen there is the bathroom and the changing table. The function begins with songs, then a moment of silence, followed by the reading of a passage from the Bible, followed by moments of recollection and a closing hymn. The whole thing takes about an hour. There are monitors on which are projected the lyrics of the songs and reading the passage from the Bible that precedes the sermon of the vicar. That way, even with a modest knowledge of English, you can follow the whole thing. To reach the Church is easy. You simply arrive at Hammersmith (served by four subway lines) and from there, using the exit next to McDonald, reach the second porch. 33 and 72 buses reach the neighborhood of Barnes. The first stop after the graceful iron bridge of Hammersmith is called Lonsdale Road. The Church is a three minute walk from there. The neighborhood is nice to visit, there are several restaurants and pubs in which to linger. Pleasant is also along the Thames reaching Barnes Bridge and returning from the opposite shore maybe dwelling in Cheswich House.
London has got many churches and they all have their story. One of the least famous is probably Holy Trinity Church in Richmond/Barnes, but a stroll in the quiet garden around the church takes your th... more »
Set on an unusually wide footprint, this mashup of Victorian Gothic and Arts &Crafts elements with the facade banding, a distinctive presence. The cavernous interior features stained glass windows created by the leading doyens and luminaries of the day. Embellished with a decorum of ecclesiastical sculptures, memorials and accoutrements An ongoing liturgical musical tradition here augmented by a vigorous programme of recitals, concerts, festivals and events.
Great church was not Christian but came here for school
