Maryon Park is an urban public park located in Charlton in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. It is situated on the A206 south of the Thames Barrier. There is access from Woolwich Road, Charlton Lane and Thorntree Road. It is part of the Maryon Wilson Park and Gilbert's Pit Local Nature Reserve.
Charlton sandpits, which were originally part of an area known as Hanging Wood, were presented to the London County Council in 1891 by the Maryon-Wilson family, and one of the pits became Maryon Park. Another pit became Charlton Athletic's football ground, The Valley.
The park was originally wooded and, together with what is now Maryon Wilson Park, was known as Hanging Woods. This was a wild wooded area and formed an ideal retreat for highwaymen who robbed travellers on Shooters Hill and Blackheath. Those who were caught were hanged here – hence the name.
The park contains grassland, with hawkweed, gorse and broom.

  • Lovely family visit to see the animals, set in a green space. On a Wednesday you can feed the animals and learn more about them.  more »

  • A lovely little animal park with lots of animals to see. They are all fully closed in their enclosure but you can still see them clearly. Lots of greenery around too make it into a picnic too. My favourite are the beautiful horses. On Wednesday they have an open morning for parents and children to meet the animals and other best part is it's all FREE! There is limited parking, opposite the park. There are also 2 entrances to this park. One entrance brings you opposite the animal park. However, the other entrance takes you through the whole woodland of the park which feels like a good 10 mins walk.
  • A nice place for family open space and a small animal part full of deer goats sheep ducks hens a peacock and other things plenty to walk there are some stairs here so no good for wheelchair or buggies.other then that very nice.x
