Migration Museum at The Workshop is brought to you by the Migration Museum Project (MMP).

Since 2013, we have been telling stories of movement in fresh and engaging ways at venues across the UK as we work to establish a national Migration Museum. Our exhibitions and events have been attended by over 100,000 visitors, while more than 3,500 school children have participated in our education workshops.

Our residency at The Workshop in 2017/18 is a major step towards our goal of creating a permanent, dedicated Migration Museum for Britain, allied to a national education programme and a knowledge-sharing network of museums and galleries across the UK.

  • The Migration Museum is a museum-in-the-making where the beautiful, diverse human tapestry is on display. I hope they have a permanent home by the fall, because the stories of immigration and emigrati...  more »
  • no figures, no history but testimonies aplenty makes for a very moving moment. The clever display helps too. IT's a place in the making.  more »

  • I found it very disappointing. First, it was difficult to find. There are no signs on the way, which is a pity. But I also found the layout confusing. There are quite a few doors, and it was not clear to me where to go and where to avoid. The exhibitions are mainly an array of anecdotes of migrants. I did not find this enticing. I could not find any figures on migrant numbers or where they settle. Also I would have liked to know more about the general experiences of migrants. Some presumably come without knowing anyone one here. That could be difficult, yet I did not get much of a sense of that. Others come to a group already here and that could also be difficult. There are lots of this about the migration process that people have in common, yet I left the exhibition without getting any sense of that. The best photographs were the big ones on the stairs outside! I would have liked a clearer focus - some of the exhibits I had no idea why they were there or what relevance they had to migration. I will not be going back.
  • This is a brilliant place to visit. For anyone who ever was, or knew someone who was, or is an immigrant, or who is simply interested in the stories of people who have had to leave their country of birth, it is a must. The current exhibition Room to Breathe is amazingly curated..
