Welcome to the Barge!Put St Peter's Barge and other London attractions into our London day trip planning website, and watch your holiday take shape.
Welcome to St Peter's Barge, London's only floating church, located in the heart of Canary Wharf. Our aim is to help all people know God better, whatever their current stage of Christian understanding and commitment. We especially welcome anyone wanting to explore the Christian claims. In all our activities we seek to teach the Bible clearly so that people can understand it and respond to its message.
We run two distinct programmes of regular meetings, events and groups which are designed to serve both those working in Canary Wharf and also those living in the area.
All the talks given at events or services - midweek (Wed.1215 in the Idea Store Canary Wharf, Wed 1315 on The Barge) and Sundays (10.30am) are available to listen to or download.
A Brief History
Some 140,000 people currently work in Canary Wharf, and a large part of this centre of business and finance lies in the parish of St Anne's Church. Several years ago St Anne's began to run lunchtime meetings in pubs and winebars to reach out to those working in the Wharf. The work developed with the support of St Helen's Bishopsgate, but further growth was hampered for lack of a permanent venue on site.
The vision to use a barge was realised with the formation of the St Peter's Canary Wharf Trust and the purchase of a Dutch freight barge in 2003. The barge was refitted in the Netherlands and brought across the North Sea under its own power in the summer of that year - a journey which was chronicled in a BBC documentary shown in the autumn. The barge now has a permanent mooring at the heart of Canary Wharf in West India Quay.
A permanent full-time Church of England minister was appointed by the Trust in July 2004 and licensed by the area bishop to head up the staff team of four. September 2004 saw the launch of a new Sunday evening congregation with its own programme of meetings and groups to serve the many thousands who now live in the area.
Although St Peter's Barge is the only floating church in London, and to our knowledge in the UK, it is not the first floating church in the capital. That distinction goes to The Episcopal Floating Church which operated from 1825-45 from the ship Brazen.
There were also other floating churches in the 19th century in Oxford, Scotland and in New York.
St Peter's Barge Reviews
St Peters Barge is an interesting concept being a floating church. Even more bizarre is the location near Canary Wharf. A church ministering to bankers and insurance brokers in the hearts of a major..... more »

Simple explanations of the gospel with sound Theological supporting evidence. Reports of leadership include "one of the best in London". I can say from experience that this is the family that anyone would pray for in a place that can be lonely and devoid of support when it's most needed. I can be confident that my children are in good hands with the DBS checked volunteers in Creche and Sunday school. If you're searching for something in your life., you'll find it here. Try it and see. There's no fee, no contract, and no free trial automatically charging you after 90 days. It's life changing. It won't make your circumstances better, but it will change the way you view them and life - and that will bring you Joy and Peace.
Very friendly and welcoming church community with Sunday services ever-so-coolly held in the cinema! Definitely not old-school or fusty! Relevant teaching with soulful music. Good news in a good place :)
