Explore one of the world's most famous castles and immerse yourself in British history at Tower of London. William the Conqueror originally built the castle in 1066, and today it stands perfectly preserved on the north bank of the River Thames. Start your visit in the White Tower. Frequently mentioned in Shakespeare's plays, the main tower features smaller projecting corner towers that lend it a distinctive medieval appearance. Inside, you'll encounter the 11th-century Chapel of St. John the Evangelist and the Royal Armouries collection of medieval weapons. Next, head for the crown jewels exhibit, which houses 23,578 royal gems. Here you can discover how the British coronation ceremony employs specific jewels--such as the Coronation Spoon--and the symbolism of each item. The tower includes a handful of other notable exhibits, including one showing how prisoners were kept and another detailing the history of the Royal Mint. The price of your ticket includes a free tour with a Beefeater, a retired sergeant major from the British Army, so make sure you take this opportunity to hear entertaining stories from the site's history. Each evening you can watch the 800-year-old Ceremony of the Keys, when guards lock the site. If you visit in winter, you can ice-skate on the moat. 歴史あるお城だが英国の歴史にそんなに興味がないので、見て回ったがそんなに素晴らしいものとは思えなかった。 more »
It's a historic castle, but I'm not so interested in British history, so I looked around and didn't think it was that great.View original

The tower of London was great. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The crown jewels were absolutely brilliant and stunning. I understand the need to simply experience them and not have constant photos being taken, but it is a little disheartening to be unable to capture the memory via more than my own eyes and brain. We were not present at the tower for long as we were crunched for time, but that was our own fault. Regardless, it's beautiful and definitely worthwhile as you can see the crown jewels - and there is nothing like seeing those jewels in person.

The Tower of London is magnificent! If you love history it is worth the money when in London. Seeing the Crown Jewels and learning about the history of this amazing structure was on my bucket list and I am so happy I got to check it off. I would recommend giving yourself about 3 hours to get through it if you want to have plenty of time. Take the train to the Tower Hill stop and you’ll be right there! While you’re there, you’ll be able to see the incredible London Bridge as well. Enjoy this beauty!
