Leeds Castle, Maidstone

4.3
A favorite wedding venue for local couples, Leeds Castle is widely regarded as one of England’s most romantic locations. A castle has been on this site since 1119, eventually coming into the hands of King Edward I, for whom it became a beloved home. Henry VIII used it in the 16th century, making it an official residence for his first wife, Catherine of Aragon. Today, the castle is a major attraction, including a maze, grotto, golf course, and what may be the world’s only museum of dog collars. Tickets are valid for a whole year, so you can visit the castle as many times as you wish. Skip the long line by booking online. • Beautiful castle nestled in a beautiful park. Very scenic and suggestive. It is certainly worth the visit, although, as usual in England, the entrance is certainly not cheap. Since a lot has already been said in the reviews of those who preceded me, I will reveal a little "trick", which can help those who can not afford the price of the ticket. With the entrance in front of you, walk sideways to the right. You will find the entrance to a public path accessible to all, which crosses the castle park. So you can see the castle from outside and also cross the magnificent golf course: remember to ring the bell to warn the players of your arrival! As written at the entrance of the trail, you should follow the signs scrupulously and not disperse inside the park... even if the temptation is strong :)

  • This is one of my favorite castles in England. The views of the grounds are amazing. They are incredibly well maintained and offer fantastic photo opportunities. Learning about the history and evolution of the castle was fun. Actually touring the rooms was a great experience. I would definitely check this place out if you get the time.
  • The castle is in a picturesque surroundings with beautiful garden and river. Highlight of the day was black swans with red beak. The castle grounds are a good place for picnic and family outing. There are not many outlets for food. Good to bring along your own food. In case you want use public transportation avoid Sunday and holiday as the bus frequency is low.
