Create an itinerary including Bradgate Park
Cut in two by the River Lin and spanning 344 hectares (850 acres), Bradgate Park is a piece of classic English countryside. On the park grounds, an old hall has an intact chapel and an effigy to the first Earl of Stamford and his wife. Aside from the chapel, the only sections of the hall still standing are the four truncated towers that once flanked the grand house. Hike the park and visit two well-known landmarks, Old John and the war memorial. Pick up a map first at the visitor center at Newtown Linford or the one near Bradgate House in a building called the Deer Barn, which also houses a cafe. The rocks are an attraction in and of themselves: Some of them hold fossils of some of the oldest known life-forms in the area. Consider cycling from the center of Leicester through the park, an easy ride along paved roads. • Easy access although signage could be clearer. Parking easy to negotiate also. Road gives clean walking, but boots would be an advantage if you want to visit the areas beyond the watercourse...

  • It's a gorgeous park for a walk. Wonderful for kids and adults alike. It's usually busy on the main paths but if you wander off a bit further it's quiet. The cafe serves decent food, and plenty of parking available. Definitely worth a visit!l
  • I love this place. Lovely open space with brook and reservoir. Deer folly Lady Jane Greys house ruins cafe and interesting staffed information centre. Spectacular views. You can always find a tranquil spot no matter how many people are there. There is a path for easy walking or those with limited mobity or ramble over grass up hill is and down dales. Just breathtaking
