Wollaton Hall and Park, Nottingham

4.6
Walk through the majestic Wollaton Hall and Park to see Elizabethan bedrooms, kitchens, wine cellars, stables, gardens, and servants' quarters. The grand mansion was built in the 1580s for Sir Francis Willoughby, a wealthy industrialist. Legend has it that Queen Elizabeth I snubbed Willoughby’s previous house, prompting him to charge architect Robert Smythson to construct a mansion so grandiose it would leave all future visitors, royal and commoner alike, absolutely speechless. Since opening to the public in 1926, the site has been home to the city’s natural history museum, with a collection of nearly 750,000 specimens of birds, insects, and plants. The mansion’s calendar is full of special events, guided tours, and family activities. Skip the long lines by booking online. • Gorgeous hall and gardens. Lots of gorgeous gardens and a big lake. Lovely cafe, and gift shop. Wollaton hall is beautiful to look round and is free to enter. There is also a gift shop inside the hall itself. They hold the outdoor cinema here in the summer which is such a lovely evening. Definitely recommend here whether it be for the hall or for the park.
  • A great place to visit, all kept very clean and tidy. The Hall is kept in a very good state of repair, lots of very old and interesting trees. Good walks are to be had. Lots of deer roaming around the grounds and play areas for children to have fun. There is a good cafe serving light bites and the coffee is very good and cheap.
