Must see · Nature / Park · Wildlife Area
More than 500 gentle donkeys welcome you to their home at The Donkey Sanctuary at Slade Farm--the main headquarters of this international charity. Where else can you challenge your children to spot a miniature donkey roaming free in the fields, and pet a gentle giant called a Poitou? Five walking trails accommodate everyone's ability: one leads to a wildflower meadow, another leads you to the nature center, and others are bicycle friendly. Your children will love getting lost in the giant maze, going on a treasure hunt, and picnicking on the farm. Plus, dogs are permitted. There's no entrance fee, but you're encouraged to contribute at any of the donation boxes scattered throughout the grounds. Another delicious way to contribute is by eating breakfast, lunch, or a snack at Hayloft Restaurant, since they donate all of their proceeds to the sanctuary. • Donkeys all in excellent condition and very well cared for. Needs more signs for clearer directions around the large site. Map is very poor. Lovely shop but very expensive. Enjoyed the look around.....  more »
  • Suggested to us by a local. The sanctuary is easy to access and offers ample parking. It’s enclosures cover a large space providing plenty of pouty unity for short, middle and longer distance walks...  more »

  • I love the donkey sanctuary. They have lots of donkeys that you can sponsor (I’ve sponsored Zena). They have signs to tell you the different donkeys in each field or stall. Underneath the picture of them, they have the name, number and a little bit about them. There is also a tearoom which do very nice cheese scones and cakes with cream filling. Overall, I think the donkey sanctuary is a great place to visit.
  • Lovely place. Really friendly and informative staff. My little girl loved petting the Donkeys. Refreshments are a bit pricey but you have to expect it to be fair as its free entry. Would definitely come back 👌🏿
