Tour a royal garden at The Royal Gardens at Highgrove, surrounding the family residence of the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall. The lush establishment maintained by the prince since 1980 features a number of scented plants including honeysuckle, holboellia, and thyme. The wildflower meadow pays particular attention to native endangered species such as ragged robin, meadow crane's bill, and ox-eye daisies. A guide will tell you all about Prince Charles's gardening style. Book in advance and bring some ID with you, but leave your camera behind. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Tetbury holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the The Royal Gardens at Highgrove and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.
The Royal Gardens at Highgrove Reviews
Visited Highgrove for a Sunday lunch and was not disappointed. Arrived & checked through security. Waited in the reception area with lovely log fire before going through to restaurant. It was a two co... more »
Came here with my mum (the keen gardener) and because I was curious to see the grounds myself. What a lovely tour. Very informative and in depth. Just the right length and detail. Could've spent hours... more »
Fantastic experience, excellent value, amazing service, highly recommended. The walking is about an hour and three quarters. There are no opportunities to sit down but the pace is very gentle - my 81 year old father coped well with the tour. The fabulous lunch in the Orchard Restaurant is a worthwhile addition and a chance to take a break.
I believe a review should be fair highlighting the good, and, if necessary - the not so good. The gardens are a delight. I loved them! However - the guide, pleasant, polite and knowledgeable as she was - tended to be a little impatient. She tended not to allow some members of the group to catch up, causing them to miss out on information which she had already started to impart to those at the front. This was a group largely, but not exclusively, consisting of over 60s. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit - and highly recommend it for the gardens alone. However - the guides are absolutely vital, no tour can proceed without them - understandably so, for security reasons if nothing else. Ultimately FAR more good than bad - unquestionably. But I felt compelled to mention my concern. I thank His Royal Highness and His wonderful team for an inspirational experience.
