Trip Planner: USA / Florida / Brevard County / Merritt Island / NASA Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
The world of space exploration and discovery awaits you at NASA Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Adjacent to NASA's Kennedy Space Center launch site, the complex offers a behind-the-scenes look at the astronauts' world through interactive exhibits, simulations, and guided tours. Take a bus tour to the observation platform at Launch Complex 39 for views of both launch pads and the space center. At the Shuttle Launch Experience, you can get a hint of what the astronauts feel when they're launched into space. Stop by the Astronaut Hall of Fame, and later walk through the Rocket Garden. We were there at 9 o'clock in the morning and in the evening at 18:30 as one of the last guests we were "complimented out" - and could have stayed another 3 hours longer. It even tied up my wife and my 15-year-old daughter. At the latest when you stand at the "Atlantis" and imagine that you are facing a piece of world history, goosebumps are the order of the day! Also seeing the original Apollo rocket is such a WOW effect! Of course (America-typical) is put on pathos and heroism-but (at least here) it is not unjustified in my opinion!! If you don't want to spend a small fortune, you should bring your own drinks and food, do without electronic translators (available at the info) and have no interest in any souvenirs (shirts, jackets, caps, stickers, figurines,....) We spent three on this day about € 200,-. But it was worth every penny!
So it is probably receiving 3 stars because we decided to do this last minute and I didn't research much. But here goes, it took us over an hour to get parked. The gates open at 8:30(earlier than the center) be there early and be prepared to be on a two lane highway for awhile. I also suggest that you allow this visit to two days plus. With the crowds and wait times, it makes it impossible to enjoy the experience in one day. The Atlantis museum takes over two hours to tour (AWESOME, RIGHT?!) but the wait times were long. We sadly didn't get to see it. Pretty much the rocket garden, and few other exhibits along with one shoe is all we experienced for several hundred dollars. It seemed to be more of a theme park than learning experience. I get you need to raise money for our space program but, everything was additional costs to see. I wouldn't go back even with only seeing a 1/4 of the park (yes park because it does not seem like a center or museum).
Had a day out with the family and fully enjoyed the day. Great to see all the rockets and I must complement our bus driver who took us on our tour for his wealth of knowledge. Something for all ages and were still trying to work how the shuttle simulator worked. Great to be able to take our snacks in with us and we followed the advice to get there for opening time. Hope you have a great day. 👍🏻
