A reptilian wonderland, Gatorland is a theme park and wildlife preserve founded in 1949. Spanning over 45 hectares (110 acres) and claiming status as the "alligator capital of the world," the park houses thousands of gators and crocodiles, many of them bought from trappers who usually catch these creatures for their meat and skin. Used as one of the settings for a 1984 movie about adventurer Indiana Jones, the park features a large breeding marsh with a wooden boardwalk and a three-story observation tower, allowing you to observe reptile shows from a safe distance. To learn how to wrangle crocodiles like a pro, join the park's "trainer for a day" program. C'est une expérience très amère. Dès l'entrée, nous voyons le premier enclos. Une grande quantité d'alligators y sont entassés, l'enclos est de toute évidence bien trop petit pour eux. Nous passons à ... more »It's a very bitter experience. From the entrance we see the first enclosure. A large amount of alligators are crammed there, the enclosure is obviously far too small for them. We go next to 3 or 4 similar enclosures, before falling on a "show" enclosure: come see the alligators jump as high as possible! There are several spaces like this, reserved for the amusement of the public. It seems to be in the old animal circuses, as it used to be, at a time when we didn't care so much about animal welfare. Today, in 2019, it shocked us. Farther into the Park, we saw snakes bred in captivity, in small vivariums. With all this, that the Park displays "wildlife preserve" on its advertising, it seemed totally inappropriate. We add the expensive food, bad, with very little choice, and we get a rather mediocre result for this park. We should have done a little more road and go to Creek reserve, Lakeland. We would have been less sad and uncomfortable.
Our trip to Orlando ended with a stop to Gatorland and it couldn't have been more perfect. First of all they offer really good discounts to Florida residents and Military so we ended up spending very ... more »
Wide variety of entertainment. The kids enjoyed it. Probably the best part, and most unexpected was the bird house where you go in with the birds. Our kids loved it and we got fantastic pictures with the kids. Definitely buy the seed stick. Great place to spend a day while on vacation. Not exhausting like the big theme parks, but still worth the experience and can still fill a day.
Great place to see gators, obviously. Even after seeing wild gators after living in Florida for 32 years, these animals were still amazing. Plenty of birds, gator/animal shows. Restaurant with fair pricing (hint, don't eat lunch at typical lunch time to avoid long lines). Even had live music at the outdoor eating tables. Zip lines are there but I'm not a fan, so passed. Definitely would recommend and will take the family again.
