Explore a variety of ecosystems at Lettuce Lake Regional Park. See wetlands with alligators, oak forests, cypress trees, and floodplains as you walk on the more than 1,067 m (3,500 ft) boardwalk. From the boardwalk, make your way to the observation tower for a view of the entire park. From here, you can spot the open field with picnic tables, barbecue pits, and plenty of space to play sports. You also can view the natural surroundings from the water in a rented kayak or canoe. Wear comfortable shoes and light clothing to beat the heat, and remember to bring drinking water. There's a free, guided nature tour from the visitor center on weekend mornings. My co-workers and I had a team building lunch at the park and we had one of the best times out of the office. The shelters provide plenty of shade and the barbecue grills available let us have some great burgers and hot dogs. A group of us also took a long walk along the waterfront, which was beautiful and very peaceful. We saw several kinds of birds and kept an eye out for alligators (although we didn't see any on this trip).
It's a good park adjacent to urban areas! There is background noise from the interstate and the heavily traveled Fletcher Rd. But, the park offers a great and safe space with walking and riding trails and a great board walk. If you like to canoe, you can bring your own or rent one! This park allows for you to get a glimpse of a true preservation area that protects natural habitats and provides a wonderful place for the family!
