Hampton Court Palace was originally built for Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, a favorite of King Henry VIII. In 1529, Wolsey fell out of royal favor and the king took possession of the palace, launching a massive rebuilding project intended to rival Versailles. A rare example of both Tudor and Baroque building styles, the site is one of only two remaining palaces once owned by Henry VIII. Learn more about the palace’s history at the information center. Lose yourself inside the celebrated maze, designed to confuse and intrigue visitors with numerous twists, turns, and dead ends. Also on the grounds are manicured gardens, historic tennis courts, and a huge grapevine, allegedly the largest in the world. We really enjoyed our visit to Hampton Court Palace, so beautiful and interesting. The audio guides are great as they give lots of information but don't overload you with facts. Although we didn't...

Absolutely spectacular. There is so much history at this national landmark. The grounds were absolutely amazing and worth visiting.

A worthy entry to any 'must visit' list. Easy to access by rail and bus. Surrounded by parkland with areas of formal garden and the world's biggest Vine. If you like Tudor history this place needs to be on your list. The ceiling paintings are exquisite. There are treasures from the Mary Rose, paintings from the Queens collection and hand written letters that are nearly 500 years old. Amazing.

Amazing place. Great staff, building is beautiful, exhibits clear and interesting, enjoyed the coffee shop. Flow through the building is very helpful. The grounds go on forever with so many different styles. We really enjoyed our day. After over 6 hours we still could have seen more of the grounds (even a children's stunning play area). Recommended.
