Create an itinerary including Eden Camp Modern History Museum
A restored prisoner-of-war camp from World War II, Eden Camp Modern History Museum stands as a reminder of one of England's most trying periods. Thirty-three huts are spread across a small area, with one building holding three human torpedoes and a "Sleeping Beauty" motorized submersible canoe. Other buildings recreate the conditions for a prisoner at the camp and house exhibits related to social and military history from 1914 to the present. Regular bus services running from nearby cities make daily stops near the museum, or you can take the train to Malton station. The site is dog friendly, including designated areas in the cafe. • Well worth a visit. Some very interesting displays and literature all around in the many different barracks that you visit. We needed a good 5 hours to see everything, and still felt we could have stayed longer to read everything. Good cafe that you can take a break in half way around. Displays could probably do with a bit of updating but other than that, a good day out for adults and kids. Some great history lessons.
  • Visited on a weekend and bought tickets in advance, although you could pay on arrival. Fantastic modern history museum set in an old POW camp. Some very interesting displays and areas that are very realistic such as the Blitz, Blackout and U-boat. Also went to the cafe which served a good selection of meals. Lovely day out
