Despite its outward appearance, Manchester Cathedral is one of oldest churches in Europe with roots established around 700 CE. Hidden pieces of art give it a whimsical feel. For example, check out the quire stalls, which have hinged seats that you’re welcome to lift gently. Directly underneath are carvings of medieval morality tales. In one, a woman scolds a man for breaking a cooking pot; another depicts men playing table games. Call the church office before visiting to ensure there are not any conflicting events. Beautiful cathedral inside and out. Nice for a walk around. Could have been more written information inside.

So glad to have visited this place and the Glade of Light memorial garden for the lost lives of the Manchester Arena attack.

My daughter and I went for an evening of music and dance, the place was lit completely with candles that added ambiance to the whole experience, beautiful music from a string quartet and a bit of ballet from 2 dancers. There was a small area where you could get a drink, either a light refreshment or alcohol. There was a few people walking into the candles on the floor, luckily they were battery operated 😊

Amazing place, there is limited disabled parking on Cathedral Approach/ Victoria St. but there are bollards which have to be unlocked presumably by Cathedral staff. When I left they had been locked back in place but I found a slightly larger gap between a couple of them and managed to just squeeze through. The only other place to park I know of within a couple of minutes walk is the Q Park at the other end end of Victoria Bridge St . but as usual you will pay a fortune if your there for longer than a couple of hours.
