Southend Pier & Railway is the longest pleasure pier in the world. Stretching 2.16 km (1.34 mi) into the Thames Estuary, the pier makes for a relaxing way to spend an afternoon. Pass local fishermen as you stroll to the end of the pier, or take the small train journey, which is handy for children and the elderly. Enjoy a coffee at the end of the pier in the cafe at the Royal Pavilion. Visit the RNLI lifeboat station and museum while you are there. Throughout the year, the pier hosts a number of special events. Make Southend Pier & Railway a part of your Southend-on-Sea vacation plans using our Southend-on-Sea road trip tool.

Paid £5.30 each to walk down then get the train back, waited quite a while in a big queue for the train back, but we'll worth a look 😉

A nice long walk along the longest pier in the world. Look. You're in Southend. It's a nice walk down a long pier in the estuary. It isn't the Bahamas. 2 quid entrance for an Essex legend. Lived in Essex most my life and only done it recently. Glad I did. Couple games to play at the end. Places for food and drinks. A life guard thing. Well worth a walk down if you're in town my opinion. The sky and the river meet very well the further you walk down the pier and you feel surrounded by blue and brown/green. Very nice.

Visited 21/04/22 bought tickets to walk down the pier and get the train back. It was a lovely sunny day but rather windy. Got to the end of the pier had a wander round only the Costa cafe was open this was previously Jamie and Jimmy's cafe. Out of the wind it was really nice and warm sitting on seats at the pier head. Got the new electric train back. These are a lot better than the old trains one.of which had been converted into shelters on the platform and other locations nearby.
