Create an itinerary including Museum Gardens
Museum Gardens offers 4 hectares (10 acres) of colorful and exotic plants set among ruins dating back to the Roman era. Wander among different planting areas, including a fern garden, a butterfly border, and an American prairie border, and spot lime, holly, beech, and oak trees, among others. Stop to admire the corner of the Roman fortress that dates to the 3rd or 4th century, and the remains of the walls and nave of the 11th-century St. Mary's Abbey. Check the gardens' schedule of which plants flower and when to ensure you see as much color as possible during your visit. • Only just across from the city walls, these gardens are peaceful, tranquil, and beautifully presented.

  • What a beautiful and relaxing place to visit to relax and unwind to have a picnic and a cuppa tea from your flask. Just a short walk from York Minster and right on the river bank too.

  • Gardens are lovely but staff are consistently rude and unfriendly so only visit occasionally.
  • Sometimes there are those wildlife attractions with 'birds of prey' and of course the museum access, if you walk straight through to the opposite side there's a nice flower garden too! Oh and museum with viking history and dinosaurs at the end which seemed like it would be fun for kids, although it's the last 10/15 minutes at the end. All in all, as most of york is, it's very pretty and makes you go 'that's pretty neat' 😎
